Website blocked in several countries and broken links.

I’ve known for a while that users from at least the following countries have been blocked access to my website. That was driving me nuts. Probably you’ve been having difficulties until yesterday if you’re from:

  • Australia
  • Israel
  • Malaysia
  • Other Middle East countries.
  • Probably other countries as well.

You would just get a time out while trying to reach the server.

What happened is that a few months ago my hosting provider filed for bankruptcy and I had to move to a new host.

The one I ended (a local provider) was fine, until users started to tell me they couldn’t reach the site. I chose that provider because I’m quite limited in the payment options due to Argentinean Government regulations regarding currency and payment methods; and they seemed quite professional and trust worthy among my choices (unless I would consider much more expensive hosting plans that weren’t fit for my kind of usage).

Well, turns out my provider NUTHOST has a partnership with CloudFlare, a CDN system, for this kind of things. They helped me out setting up the CDN and after a couple hours, users from those regions could access the site again! 🙂

There is one catch though. You must access the site as www.yosoygames.com.ar instead of yosoygames.com.ar (notice the www prefix).

The site used to be configured to use the non-www prefixed version.

So if you are from one of the regions above and see what it appears to be a broken link, check that it has the www prefix in the URL.

If you see this kind of not-really-broken link, report it to me in the comment section or via twitter or via email about the broken link and I’ll try to fix it.
